It's also 5x harder when you're out in the real world - tired and exposed to the elements. Worked very well and is much lighter/smaller than the Kool Stop version but I haven't seen it again in Newy at least. It comes to all of us I used to be able to remove and remount motor bike tyres on chrome rims by hand back in the day - nowadays I struggle with the Continentals on my Flying Gate.Īlso, recently I was given a bright orange version of this tool - much like the VAR tool with the included second tyre lever but considerably stiffer. Also helps to not trap the inner on that last bit. They are a blessing to folk with weaker hands for whatever reason. Eventually someone in Oz saw the light in the new century and they started to appear in forward thinking bike shops. In those pre-web days I ended up resorting to getting friends in the Netherlands to send some over in the 90's. I spent my first 20 years in Oz trying to convince macho bike shop owners that these even existed or were necessary. My wife commuted into London with the VAR tool in her back pocket in the early 80's. These have been around forever in Europe especially the VAR tool that RonK mentions. Just stick it in your back pocket, it's not exactly heavy. that last bit of tyre bead is always a struggle to install.
